The wings

Ducati has been the first to promote this new style. It also famous for many other innovations in the sector. It started back in the years of Stoner, even if smaller and not so invasive, then it took them back and proposed them again in the lasts years. A technology which has been developed by the other team either right now.

For me to find a technical advantage is very difficult. The reason why the Red Team decided to use them is surely the classic problem the V4 engines got: low weight on the front tire. This problem causes handling  and stability lacks making the corners.
However to work properly the wings need air pressure and due to lower speeds in the corners this is almost absent or minimum. The problem it's not totally solved then and the advantages are not sure.

Also they brought turbulence in the wakes at high speed as collateral effect (perhaps wanted). Pedrosa was the first to speak about this at the beginning of the season, accusing lacks of stability on the straights following the Ducatis.

The disadvantages are more serious. For containing weights, the wings are in carbon fiber. On Ducati they are built directly on the hulls as unique piece, on Yamaha instead they are riveted on the windshield.
When the carbon fiber is thin is also comparable to a knife if broken. Ducati got thicker ones transforming them in "hummers". This is clear to Loris Capirossi, ex rider and safety responsible, who touched them by hand confirming my hypothesis. The wings are too strong from a structural point of view, so in alternative they go to break something else weaker (for instance riders).
Compromising safety for minimum increase of performances and calling it "development" is wrong in my opinion. More useless if I think that hardly somebody will use these on stock motorcycles, also because they are ugly. Propose rejected with no mercy.

The picture took from Marquez's motorcycle tail in Argentina will explain better what I've written in this post.
